Subject: Storage Dimensions VADDs
Date: August 1, 1990
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
GENERAL
INFORMATION: Storage Dimensions has certified the LANSCSI.OBJ and
LANSCSI.OBJ VADDs on AT machines with (of course) AT
Controllers. Recently, we have had customers call in with
the same VADD names being used on MCA Controllers.
1. We haven't yet certified either of these two VADDs on
MCA Controllers.
2. If we had, IMSP would probably have required Storge
Dimensions to change the names of those VADDs.
3. Storage Dimensions provides a utility called LANSTOR.EXE
which generates and places the xxxxx.OBJ in the proper
NETGEN directory. However, the file date stamp is updated.
This makes a mess when you want to track VADD versions.
Fortunately, whenever the VADD is initialized under COMPSURF,
NETGEN Install, F/S boot, etc., the VADD version appears in
a temporary window.
If you know of other 3rd party developers who are using the
same names for products which should have different names,
as in this instance of ISA vs MCA, then let us know. You
may want to beware of potential problems of this nature as
you troubleshoot your way through the obscure paths of
Tech Support.
